Seed Genetics Direct is currently seeking multiple Seedsmen/women in two capacities:
1. Seedsmen/women who are salaried and full-time
2. Independent Area Seedsmen/women who are commissioned based and determine their schedule.
Both types of Seedsmen/women will work remotely in their area to meet the corn, soybean, wheat, and alfalfa seed, as well as herbicide, needs of area farmers. The SGD customer area encompasses Corn Belt and Midwest states including, but not limited to, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, and Tennessee. Seed Genetics Direct is specifically seeking Seedsmen/women in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Michigan. JOB DUTIES
Sell Seed Genetics Direct brand products (corn, soybean, wheat, and alfalfa seed, as well as herbicide) to area farmers and recommend products appropriate for customer goals, needs, and land, as needed.
Troubleshoot and problem-solve customer concerns and issues regarding plants, fields, insects, disease, ordering, and billing.
Promote Seed Genetics Direct brand products (corn, soybean, wheat, and alfalfa seed, as well as herbicide).
Communicate and implement sales programs and policies within the assigned territory in order to meet sales goals.
Recruit prospective customers and new customers.
Develop and enhance relationships with current, new, and potential customers.
Maintenance and servicing of current and future accounts.
Assist Director of Logistics in delivery scheduling.
Assist in seed delivery and return processes.
Conduct and participate in special events according to direction from the Director of Marketing.
Increase the territory’s overall market share.
Develop and maintain a agronomic and technical knowledge of seed products and services applicable to the assigned territory.
Answer and respond to emails, calls, and/or inquiries in a timely and courteous manner.
File paperwork, forms, and reports as required in a timely manner.
Create and maintain a productive and harmonious atmosphere.
Transact all business in an ethical manner.
Follow company policies and procedures.
Maintain cooperative and positive working relationships with customers, contractors, drivers, conditioners, seed partners, growers, employees, and management.
Any other duties deemed necessary to assign, as applicable.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
High school degree required. College degree in agriculture, agronomy, business, and/or sales preferred.
Two years of experience in sales, plus two years of experience in agriculture.
Valid state driver’s license required. CDL preferred, but not required.
Excellent knowledge of the industry and trends impacting customer business.
Understanding of the coordination of deliveries per customer and location within the delivery and sales area.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Self-motivated.
Demonstrated knowledge of proven sales techniques, as well as excellent negotiating skills, the ability to overcome obstacles, and conflict resolution skills.
Effective decision-making, organizational, team building, and time management skills.
Must be able to comprehend and perform business math calculations.
Must be able to write and read reports and make presentations.
Ability to perform mathematical calculations, read, and understand technical and trade documents.
Must possess or be able to quickly learn technology skills and programs such as databases, inventory systems, email, etc. that support effective communication and receiving, shipping, delivering, scheduling, and reporting of inventory and/or inventory processes and procedures.
United States citizenship or eligibility to work in the United States.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Regularly stand or sit for prolonged periods of time.
Full range of body movements including use of and ability to bend, reach, lift, climb, and crouch.
Must be able to operate machinery. May be required to work at heights.
Ability to lift up to 75 pounds with regularity.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work hours are determined by customers and Seedsmen/women. However, Seedsmen/women are expected to make customer service a priority (returning calls/emails and meeting needs daily), recruit new customers in their sales area, and increase sales numbers. Some days will require working longer hours or coming in early or late due to seasonal demands and customer availability. Weekend work may also be required.
This position will be exposed to a variety of climatic conditions including extremes in heat and humidity, as well as airborne irritants. The normal automobile travel hazards will apply. Travel will be in all types of weather including heavy rain, high heat, humidity, and below freezing temperatures with possible snow or ice conditions.
The noise level in the work environment will vary.
Drug testing may be required.
